I am slowly putting together a bit more information about our clans and their territories, and intend to include a few landmarks / notable features for each area. I have some in mind already, but would also like to have member feedback, so I’m giving you guys the chance to make suggestions.
There’s no form (for a change), and you're welcome (encouraged, even) to discuss your ideas in this thread, but please make sure you make it clear which clan your suggestions apply to. My aim is to include at least two member suggestions for each clan, but I may use more – it very much depends on what you guys come up with / how popular ideas are / how they fit into the lands, ect.
I look forwards to seeing what you come up with! Key

My initial thought is "yay!" as I was really hoping you'd do this. c:
As for landmarks, I will ponder on it. I will throw out there that in Alias and I's rp we're at somewhere in Treeclan's territory that (due to making them race there) I tried to make a well known location, but it is basically an area with a feeled tree that is noted for being plentiful in prey and many small prey make there homes there. Perhaps it could be some sort of special tree, like a large oak that somehow fell years back which would make it of note within the territory?
I dunno though, might need work if used at all. I just thought I'd throw it out there as I'd already pondered it a bit to include it in the RP. q:

I'm glad to hear that you like this thread :3
I was actually meaning to let you know that I was thinking about using that (yes, I am stalking reading that thread), and was going to ask you if you had any specifics in mind for the area. I'm semi-sure that Treeclan's woodland is going to contain a good number of oak trees, too, but not sure how many there would be. I'll let you know once I have an answer; the rarity of the tree would probably effect the significant of a fallen oak.

Yeah, I wasn't sure what kinda forest they were in tbh. Well whatever tree is notably large and rare in that area I guess, I didn't specify at all in the RP. q:

I'm going to try to make some land marks for clans. Some of them may be pretty obvious and stuff.
In Stneclan: Something along the lines of Jagged Rock. A large boulder jutting out not too high up in Stoneclan. Cats can climb up it and see pretty far or something. It's probably pretty sunny on the top. Kind of around the beginning of the more mountainous area in Stoneclan. And like, it's nice and shady below it. My thoughts are kind of jumbled right now so I hope this makes sense. I could be able to draw a basic picture of what I'm imagining.
In Treeclan: Some sort of very large tree. I'm not quite in tune with the type of trees that would be in this area and able to be like that. Maybe like, an oak or maple. Cedar possibly (I actually know nothing about cedar though so I'm not sure). This tree could have an abandoned owl hole/nest a ways up (I'm not sure what those holes are called. Just a hollow space that's clearly visible from ground). I could see frisky warriors and apprentices having races up to this hole.
I may update this with more later, but I'm just kind of thinking about this.

Abby and I take a family reunion sort of trip every year to Cape Cod Bay, around the Brewster mud flats, so we might have some neat suggestions for Waterclan or Mudclan? It's north-ish Atlantic ocean stuff, so I'm not sure how applicable it is to where the valley is situated, and to be honest I'm not certain of the differences between mud flats and salt plains, but. Suggestions in case.
I adore tidal zones, sandbars, and tide pools, so naturally I'm going to suggest that for the some of the stretch of ocean. You do mention the tide in Mudclan territory. Specifically, I think a thick sandbar would make a good plot point because it'll create tide pools rich in crustaceans (and attract birds for that reason), it creates a natural flux in the shape of the land that might lead to territory disputes (for example, extra sand dumped during a storm can create beach where it used to be underwater), and those unfamiliar with tides, e.g. young apprentices, might be surprised to find that the tide comes in behind the sandbar and fills in a channel, often stranding the sandbar before the tide finally rises over the entire stretch of sand. It's never really a depth that a human couldn't walk through, but for a cat it could easily be over their heads. The best places to try to get to shore are where the tidepools aren't, since those are elevated higher.
So, a more specific feature suggestion. A particularly deep tide pool (~3 feet deep in its center during low tide) known for holding a lot of prey. Clams, scallops, snails, and other mollusks live around there, so birds flock on the sandbar in order to dig them out and drop them on rocks near shore. There are small rocks in the tidepool that crabs hide near, but there's a scattering of tons of little rocks and smooth pebbles right where the high tide line on shore is. Probably a good Waterclan feature?
Here's one better for Mudclan. A little ways from where we stay, there's a marshlike area of reeds that are exposed during low tide and partially covered during high tide. There are tons of channels and pathways within the reeds that form essentially a maze - we went exploring in kayaks during high tide, moving down the biggest paths and sometimes hitting dead ends and doubling back. I, uh, probably wouldn't have been able to find my own way out - the reeds were taller than our heads while seated in the boats. Tons of birds nested in there, and we saw some crustaceans on the floor as we went along. Since you can only see your immediate area, it's harder to tell if the tide is going in/out until it's happening. A cat could probably weave through the reeds if they wanted to, but it would be slow and annoying. It never really got deeper than 3 feet even at high tide.
On a completely different note, I thought it might be neat if Treeclan had an area where the vegetation on the forest floor gets so thick that it's easier to travel through the low-lying tree branches instead of walking on the forest floor. The vegetation could be thorn bushes of some sort, or an annoying floor-carpeting plant like garlic mustard (possibly covering exposed tree roots so that cats are tripped up as they walk). It would be an area with a major advantage to its native Treeclan cats, but especially birds.
Okay, that's probably enough rambling for a post.

I'll see what I can do with the tree trunk just as soon as I've worked out what sort of trees are in that forest :3
Abby, I'm not sure how easily the tree and nest could be worked in, since Treeclaners would probably have stopped noticing trees pretty quickly, but that's certainly something I'm going to look into. The concept of a favourite play / training spot for apprentices and warriors has plenty of potential :3
My thoughts for Jagged Rock are similar, given the amount of rocks that would be in Stoneclan, but if it's placed correctly then it could well be workable. I'd probably put it in a region of easily-accessible flat land, so that all members of the clan could get to it. Does that suit?
Gracie, I love the idea of sandbars and tidal zones / pools, and I'm a little ashamed to admit that that's something that never occurred to me. I'll definitely be looking into those in a little more detail and seeing what I can do with them; they'd probably fit particularly well in Waterclan, and make Shallow / Deep hunting a little more 'interesting'. The sandbar is a particularly nice idea, since, if correctly placed, it could help to explain why Mudclan & Waterclan are always falling out over their Salt Plain border.
Unfortunately, I'm not too sure about the reeds, because I don't know where they would go should they be included, but I'll see what I can do with them. Your Treeclan idea, on the other hand, is one that probably will be worked in, because it could make a brilliant defence barrier for the clan, and I'm pretty sure that the majority of Treeclan's undergrowth is easily traversed, meaning that it would be quite a distinct feature.
Edit: Spent most of yesterday researching, and can now say that all tree ideas are well and truly back on the table, since my original thoughts for Treeclan territory won't provide the sort of environment I'm going for XP Edit2: Abby, Dusty & Gracie, your Treeclan suggestions have been included in the new Treeclan information thread.
